Bankruptcy hearing to sell house when mortgage not in their name

Hi my wife built up credit card / store cards ect.over 10 years,yesterday she went to a bankruptcy hearing where she was told she must pay the £10,000 outstanding in 4 weeks or sell our house although her name is not on the mortgage.can they do this

1st. Has she already been made bankrupt?
Or was this "hearing" a bankruptcy petition by a creditor?
