It's such a shame they're one of the companies that tests on animals :(

I used to love their stuff, it's gorgeous but can't get past the testing on animals bit....

    Err what?

    From their website:
"Ever since the company was created in 1976, we have chosen not to test our products on animals. As a reflection of this approach, we have never used products of animal origin, with the exception of beehive products (honey, royal jelly, propolis) and we were among the first to indicate this commitment in writing on our products.
We use and encourage the development of alternative testing methods for both ourselves and our suppliers. All our raw materials that we use in our products are not tested on animals, including our main active ingredients (essential oils, shea butter, honey, etc.) or have not been tested on animals in the past 20 years.
Please see our animal testing policy for more information."

    L'OCCITANE's Position on Animal Testing

Please take time to read and understand our position on this important subject below
L’OCCITANE does not and never has tested its products on animals and guarantees that the active ingredients and raw materials have never been tested on animals any point in the product development or manufacturing process.
L’OCCITANE has long been committed to the suppression of animal testing for beauty products, along with associations including One Voice and PETA. It was one of the first companies to be admitted to the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) in 1997.
China’s policy is to test cosmetic products which are to be sold in the Chinese market in order to safeguard consumer safety. These tests are conducted by external laboratories in China. In December 2011 the BUAV decided to remove their accreditation from all companies operating in China. PETA followed suit this year.
Since December 2010, L’OCCITANE has been meeting with representatives from the Chinese authorities and in February 2011 the company took part in a colloquium in Beijing - together with the BUAV and the Chinese authorities - which aimed to implement alternative tests to animal testing, recognised by these same authorities.
L’OCCITANE is fundamentally committed to the abolition of animal testing of beauty products worldwide and by working with the Chinese authorities and promoting our products, which are not tested on animals during the product development and manufacturing process, to Chinese consumers, we believe we are more likely to encourage positive dialogue and prove the case for the removal of animal testing for beauty products..
L’OCCITANE continues to work alongside the BUAV as one of the main beauty brands represented on its China Taskforce. This group works with European and Chinese groups in order to promote alternative testing methods. The last meeting took place in May 2012 and regular meetings ensue. To this end, the Chinese authorities have recently launched a new programme to investigate alternative testing protocols and L’OCCITANE continues to proactively participate to push for these alternatives to be implemented as soon as possible.

You can't believe what a provider writes themselves, have to check Peta and BUAV

they're listed on Peta as a company that tests
    http://www.peta.org/living/beauty-and-personal-care/companies/238.aspx

also, BUAV confirmed L'Occitane LOST their right to use the leaping bunny on their items - only products that are not tested on animals in any way can display the leaping bunny icon

L'Occitane may not THEMSELVES test on animals, but they sure do ask other companies to test on their behalf.

Look at what L'Occitane say on their own page

"China’s policy is to test cosmetic products which are to be sold in the Chinese market in order to safeguard consumer safety. These tests are conducted by external laboratories in China.... L’OCCITANE is fundamentally committed to the abolition of animal testing of beauty products worldwide and by working with the Chinese authorities and promoting our products, which are not tested on animals during the product development and manufacturing process, to Chinese consumers, we believe we are more likely to encourage positive dialogue and prove the case for the removal of animal testing for beauty products.."

so the above says they're against it but they still allow it - they're working with China to try and stop it but they still test on animals

by the way, I'm not trying to put anyone off buying their stuff - each to their own, just a shame they don't comply as I used to absolutely adore their products.
  • As I understand it to sell your product in China it first has to be tested on animals, so any cosmetic company that is sold in China is doing this.

Finally decided to order as I have always wanted to try their Immortelle Precious Cream and Immortelle Essential Water so I thought it's a good opportunity.
Ordered 3 Floral Delights Collections each of which contains a 15ml precious cream and 30ml of Immortelle Essential Water, added 100ml Immortelle Essential Water to bring the total price to £35 and got a free Immortelle Discovery Collection (worth £20) which also contains 3ml of precious cream.
So got 48ml of Immortelle Precious Cream, 190 ml of Immortelle Essential Water, 50ml Brightening Cleansing Foam, 50ml Brightening Water and lots of hand creams, shower gels, make up bags, etc. for only £39.05! Whilst checking out they allowed me to add 2 samples and I chose 2 eye cream samples worth around £4. Shame there is no free delivery code, but 7% TCB should cover half of it.
If I was buying just the cream alone it would have cost me £43, so very happy! :T Thanks OP! x :j

I for one will never buy from Loccitane again nor any other company on the PETA list that test on animals and there are plenty. How anyone can buy products from a company knowing that some poor defenceless animal has gone through unimaginable pain and torture in the name of human vanity makes me sick.If everyone voted with their feet these heartless companies would be forced to change their animal testing policy.
