hospital appointment on a saturday

I've received a hospital letter giving details for an appointment, but I had to double-take a bit at first, as the date they have given me is on a Saturday. It's not a problem at all, I can go on the date they have given me but I don't recall ever having had a hospital appointment on a Saturday before. (It's always Monday to Friday.) Is this something new, do you think? Has anybody else had this.

Our hospital does Sundays as well.

Not sure how long they have been doing it though.

My local hospital will sometimes schedule some extra evening and weekend clinics if they have a backlog that needs clearing.

I went in for a colonoscopy on a Sunday last year, I asked the nurse why Sunday and she told me that they can actually get more appontments done at the weekend than on a weekday as there are fewer interuptions from the rest of the hospital.

About 6 years ago now, I was in a gynae ward and 2 women were admitted for joint replacements, into the gynae ward. They were going to theatre from there and then to the orthopaedic ward following their surgery. It was a Saturday morning.

The appointment letter came through very quickly, I was surprised. It's for a scan, not a consultant appointment this time.

  • Yes, I had a Saturday appointment recently and was very surprised. I was seen much more quickly than my subsequent Monday and Tuesday appointments and I would opt for this again given a choice (unless the local football team was playing at home!)

    Good luck with your scan.

Thanks. I'm a bit apprehensive this time because they're scanning the head and neck area, which means my head will have to be right inside the scanner and I am a bit claustrophobic!

I work at a hospital and we do some clinics on Saturdays, although not that many. The only ones I know of that we do are ophthalmology (I work for them sometimes on Saturdays, the clinics tend to be a bit more relaxed and nowhere near as busy as weekdays), sexual health/GUM and the blood test clinic. We also sometimes do routine surgery at weekends.

Why not start a thread asking for suggestions on how others have coped with this? I've not had one, fortunately.
    Hope all goes well.
