in Cutting tax
I've sent my P60 off to ask them to review my tax for last year. I know I'm due a refund because I was on Basic Rate from Sept - April and not working before that.
When I was talking to our HR about it she said it would take months and months and months, but the last time I got a tax refund it took about 4 weeks.
I applied last August, and I got a check by the end of September.
How long have tax rebates taken for other people?

I would say 4-6 weeks.
No harm in giving them a call to check its status (have NI number ready as a reference) as depending on how much you earned, you could be due a decent repayment.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0 -
Still no sign, might give them a call tomorrow.0
-
It's usually around 4 weeks but may take a little longer at this time of year as everybody is applying that would be due a rebate.0

Rang them this morning, she said to give it another 2 weeks and call them if it hasn't shown up.
Money money money money money!0 -
Finally got a response back this morning. It took longer than the 40 day "commitment to repsond" that I was told when I rang up before.
That wouldn't be so bad, except that what they sent back wasn't a nice check but a form to fill in and give them my employment history from May 2005 to Sept 06.
This should all be on record, I sent back a tax claim for the 2005/2006 tax year last August, and the letter I sent with this tax claim explained (once again) that I was a full time student with no earnings from the start of the 2006 year until September.
Apparently my response with this form goes straight to the bottom of the pile and I end up waiting another 40 days. It strikes me as time wasting in the extreme.0 -
Just wondering, what tax office you dealing with then?
Did they issue you a P92 or a free hand letter (as in they just wrote can you please confirm what you were doing between....)
If P92 then I would take a guess that either somebody was rushing to get their stat and didn't read your notes on system or the person who previously dealt with you failed to put the information of your non-earning period on record.0 -
It was P92.
What I'm fairly sure happened is that they have a 40day turnaround commitment which they were missing - the date stamped on the p60 was the 18th of June and I posted it the 30th April or just before, so to push me back to the bottom of the pile they picked the most obvious form and sent it out to me.
The P92 asks for job details from the 5th May '05 to 20th September - ie between the two jobs, other addresses you've had in the past year and a day time phone number for contact.
The letter I wrote them had April 6th to 20th September explained (which is all they should need since the claim is based on the 06/07 tax year only, and a day time phone number.
The claim I sent in for the 05/06 tax year had my work and addresses and reason not earning given for that time period on it too. That claim was paid within 4 weeks, no P92 needed, and the information from that claim should be on the system.
I need to work out someway of getting back to the top of the pile.0 -
Ring your tax office and ask them to send a 'WAM referral' to the service office stating that you have already provided the details required, this should get you sorted a little quicker, depends on the tax office though.0
-
What's a WAM referral?0
-
Its basically an e-mail to the revenue officers dealing with repayments etc giving them further details of the claim0
