Is business support just admin?

Probably an easy question but is a business support role just an administration role or is there something more to it???

Could someone please give me some examples of business support duties?

It depends on the business, the industry and the role..... it could be, or maybe it's not.

Job Titles often mean diddly squat. Business Support in one company can mean a knowledgeable, fast-moving, proactive person supporting the business in many different mission-critical areas/tasks..... in another it might mean Photocopier and Coffee Monkey.
  • It means whatever the boss/business wants it to mean.

Ok so it's a wishy washy term then. I am trying to answer a question on a job application form about what business support experience I have. I have worked in admin in a university and an enterprise centre
  • Look at what the key essential and desirable skills are and list the ones that you have already done.

  • What industry/sector is the role in?

In local government business support roles tend to be administrative with duties including answering phones, filing, sorting out orders/requisitions, processing invoices, arranging meetings and some data entry/officer support.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

The university/enterprise centre is the business and your admin role was the support, what did do in your role that supported that business? :)
    Bad luck breeds bad luck.

    Damn I'm doomed.

You could put more detail in, such as taking telephone messages, directing customers (students?) to correct information sources, filing, any particular packages you have used on the pc, MS Office, databases, etc etc.

I sit next to our business support team within the company IT department.

They are responsible for the provisioning of all new equipment, managing ongoing equipment projects (for example currently we are migrating company mobile phone providers), responding to queries/complaints from users, managing their incident and request queue etc.

In our company at least, the business support team do more of a project management and support role rather than just photocopying and answering the phones.
