in Cutting tax
Hi all,
I need to make an update of my 2011-2012 self assessment form since I have forgotten to add the income received from few months employment abroad.
The deadline of payment for 2011-2012 was 31 January 2013 but in addition to be late for the update (due to my sickness since December 2013) , I do not presently have the financial ability to pay this income tax.
However, what solution could I find with the HMRC (since december 2013 I am claiming for ESA (have not received it yet) for a sickness I am suffering since 2006 (health has worsened))?
Thanks in advance for your help,
MoonDragon

You have the option to amend the return until 31st January 2014 - the option is clearly visible when you log in. You need to complete the foreign pages, making sure that you claim credit for any tax deducted in the country where you earned the money.
With regard to payment - once the amended balance appears on your account, it is essential that you contact HMRC to arrange a payment plan. You will have been expected to have exhausted all avenues of finance before asking for time to pay - friends, family, bank etc. they are not the worst to deal with - let us know how you get on.0 -

When I was completing my 2011/12 return I realised I'd made a mistake on my 2010/11. On the self assessment website I could see that I had until 31st Jan 2013 to ammend my submission.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
Yes, you have until 31 January 2014 to amend the return for the period 6 April 2011 - 5 April 2012. Of course, HMRC may charge interest on tax paid after the 31 January deadline if it is paid later than that, but you will not incur a penalty for amending your return if the return was originally submitted before 31/1/13.November 2007 £570k 25 years - MF March 2033

Yes - as explained by cotswold accountant.0 -
My last question was because when I have called the HMRC yesterday, there was certainly a misunderstanding but they told me that the deadline for being able to amend the account had expired (31 January 2013).

Correcting mistakes within 12 months
If you make a mistake on your tax return you've normally got 12 months from 31 January after the end of the tax year to correct it. This is called an 'amendment'. For example, for the 2011-12 return you have until 31 January 2014 to make an amendment.November 2007 £570k 25 years - MF March 2033
