On this forum people keep talking about cleaning/clearing their credit files after BR, what does that mean and how do you do it?

Also is there anywhere you can view your credit rating without paying the monthly fees (I already used the free trials)?

Thanks

Hi adpod, this is what I normally post for posters clearing up their credit files.

You will find companies report to one of the CRAs rather than all three, that's why it's suggested that you get your credit files from all three of the CRAs to see what's held on there.
Your accounts remain marked as defaulted.

    - The default date is on or before your BR date.
    - The current balance is marked as settled/satisfied in some way.

They are £2 each for paper/online copies.

NB: You can't order a paper copy online, they would rather you pay £12 don’t do that just print off the application form, P.O. for £2 and post this recorded delivery.

  • Noddle is the free for life version of call credit. Save yourself the £2! Noddle have been very helpful with my credit clean up and when they were showing accounts that should of been shown as settled I supplied them with letters from the offending company, contact was made and it was all sorted
  • Just in case.

I wanted to add that if your read anything online from any company that claims they can clean your credit file, repair your account history, remove CCJs or anything else like this. They are lying. It is a scam. Do not give them money. Just navigate back to MSE/Stepchange/National Debtline and get real support and guidance, for free.

By "clean up" we do not mean all adverse info is removed after bankruptcy. Instead it means correction of anything that is wrong regarding default dates and account status. In turn meaning that 6 years after the BR defaulted accounts will fall off the record with the BR as they should.

No. It does not disappear. Nothing changes about the way it is recorded, unlike defaults.

All the BR does is bar enforcement of it against you.

Now, as the CCJ was dated before your BR, it will fall off after 6 years before the actual BR order does. And as the BR is a bigger badder nasty on your credit report than a CCJ, then it being there until that point is pretty irrelevant.
