Kenwood Kenmix - are they any good?

A Kenwood chef simply isn't in the budget and I'm having no joy with Freecycle thus far. Is the Kenwood Kenmix any good? I know it won't be as beefy as a Chef, but for a single girl I can cope with that. Mostly, I want to know if the Kenmix will stand up to kneading bread dough - anybody have one?

I'm on a really tight budget, and managed to get a chef on ebay. Have a look searching for Kenwood Chef, and you'll find a lot of the older ones are not anywhere near as expensive as a new one! The 901 models are very good, and you should be able to pick one up for about £50. The 901 models are also very good in the way that the newer attachments fit. Mine is a 701 so the new attachments won't fit. Now that I have one, I'd never go back! It's like having broadband and then have to use dial-up!

Also, if you use the search gadget on the left hand side of the ebay screen, you should be able to search for chefs close enough for you to collect, that way you don't have to fork out for postage!

Sorry to hijack the thread but is a Kenwood Major the same as a Kenwood chef? It doesn';t state a model number. There's one on ebay thats not too far from me? Any good?

Kenwood Majors are usually (to my understanding) bigger and more powerful versions of the Chef. Theoretically the attachments should still fit, at least the dhough hook, balloon whisk and K-beater, bowl. I think the other attachments need to start with the same number in the model no. so if and when you do get one, if you tip it up, on the inside of the main body part I think there is a model no. so you can find out what it is.

Ie if yours turns out to be a 700 series (701, 702 etc) then your attachments model no need to start with a 7, ie 720 for the mincer. For the 900 series it's the same (901 mixer, 928 mincer).

Yes, Majors are bigger. However the 3 basic tools K beater, dough hook amd whisk for a Major are a lot longer than the ones for a Chef, so you do need to have the correct ones.

I should add that Majors work best with a decent amount of mixture in the bowl and so are best for bulk cooking - double or treble quantities of a recipe.
