Unemployment benefit

This may sound a daft question but I have always been in employment and don't know anything about unemployment benefits.
Is anyone seeking work entitled to it or does it depend on what your partner earns?
Neither of us get anything benefit wise but I had to stop work a while back due to acute health problems. Even though there is a lot I still cannot do I would like to start looking for part time work.

You can claim contributions JSA providing you've paid enough NI (which sounds like you probably have) without the income of your partner affecting it. That lasts for 6 months, then you get put onto income based JSA, which depends on savings, partner's income.etc

    Thank you.
What happens about my health problems? because they will impact on what work I can and cannot do.

Well depending on that you may be able to claim ESA instead. You should probably phone the job centre or go in and ask. They'll be able to advise you on what benefit to claim. If you're still capable for some work you may be put on JSA.
