Tesco overcharged me...
Sponge
Tesco overcharged me for a £10 mobile phone top-up. It was a £10 topup and my bank account was debited 3 x £10.
I can't navigate their website, so wondered if anyone knew if there was anything in their T&Cs to indicate what sort of refund I should be seeking? Should I simply accept a £20 refund, or should I be entitled to, or demand, more?

How about double the difference?
You could try for double the difference, but I doubt you will get it. It is an accounting error and not a misprice. I would go to customer services and burst into tears, saying you are going to get charged for dipping into your overdraft again etc etc (they don't know either way!) and your other half will be very upset, really lay it on thick! (It works for me, I burst into tears in Marks and Sparks a while ago, and got a decision reversed when they were not going to refund me on a faulty pair of shoes)What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

I might be more than an error - it could be fraud, I have heard of staff members charging their own phones with customers account details (don't recall what retailer this was so I'm not implying they were Tesco employees).0 -
I asked for a £10 top up for my sons phone and the chap happily topped it up with £20 which I had to pay for . I was not amused and went to customer services where I was told all they could do was say sorry! I did email tescos with my complaint but they never did reply.Never pay more than you have too0

That was naughty, there is a way of cancelling it (I use a machine at work) - there has to be in case payment fails! I suppose it could be another type of machine, but I would be very surprised if there was no way round it.What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
i work at the dreaded t###o we can get round the top up mistakes you just have to complain (politly if poss, tears often work with a male cs assistant) until some1 with enuf aurthoity takes up ur case(wrong i know) tesco have recently changed their refund policies think i am right in saying you will be refunded for the overcharge but the policies we r given are very long winded & can be taken in different ways(prob get corrected for saying that..) if you have got charged by your bank for this take proof & demand to see the duty manager they usually have the aurthority to override & refund most things. hope this helps but it does often depend on the store/manager/how busy the store is(they don't like customers kicking off in front of other customers so often settle quicker)Lead us not into temptation...
just tell us where it is and we'll find it....0 -
I didn't get their last email in response to my request for double the difference, so I emailed them again this morning. They've just replied saying it's not Tesco's policy to offer double the difference. However, they are willing to add £5 credit to my phone. I'll probably take it.0

You want to ask them why it is they have Double The Difference advertised on big blue boards and stickered on every single till in every single Tesco in the UK if it's not Tesco's policy? In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?

Id do what MyUserNamesTaken says, you never askd to have your phone topped up by £30, what if the £30 had put you into your overdraft which your bank would charge you forNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20
