oooooooh I'm quite chuffed my thread got a mention.
I think pyschology plays a massive part in my efforts to become debt free as well as my shopping habits.
I'm now fully aware of eyes down for a bargain for example! Even explained the Great Banana/Loss Leader ploy invoked in supermarkets at the moment to a colleague.
Cutting up my credit cards was a great boost in my mental state because it removed temptation for me.
As well as my £2 on a tuesday plan, I also if I ever have to pay money in do it through an ATM. It takes two extra days to become available, by which time the "need/desire" to spend that extra has wained, and I've forgotten about it so dont then spend it.
All these things work differently for different people. I'm quite interested to hear what works for other folks, and sometimes it can cause me to re-think my plans.
As for trolleys etc, I always take a hand basket and before I go to the checkout I always try and put something back. Its always normally something I picked up close to the end, which I neither need nor truly want. Yesterday it was honey, because I didnt have any! lol
I save all my 5p's in a piggy bank, and also all loose copper. I'm going to cash it all in early December and I'll have a good amount to put towards my Xmas shopping.
I can't save £2 coins...... just too tempting to 'borrow' one when I'm short of cash :rotfl:

I have used simple psychology quite a lot since seriously wanted to be a DFW.
I have a Trolley Token myself (present from the local market by DM) and totally agree you done end up spending it on stupid stuff that is not really needed.
I try not to carry any cash or cards with me apart from £3 what I keep in change in the bottom of my bag/case. The reason for this is if I dont have it in my wallet I am not able to spend unless I go home and collect the card.
I have to have some cash just in case of an emergency but £3 should be enough for a bus and a phone call. If it was not in change and not loose at the bottom of my case I would be tempted to spend.

I don't take my purse on school runs, which saves on a) the temptation to 'just pop in' for something, and b) my children know I never have money so know it is pointless to ask for sweets on the way home.
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

I like to work out how much money Ive made by doing little things
Go to farmfoods for my loo roll "ive just saved 70p there" ( on nouvelles)
I just did some work this morning "Ive just made 45 quid today"
listing books on amazon "potentially 35 quid from that 10 mins work "
and so on.... Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0
