I'm going Tuesday night. Going totally casual. (Well, dark trousers and a shirt, no tie, clean shoes - that's casual for me!) Im volunteering, not applying for a job they have to pay me for. If they don't want clean, tidy, respectable, casual then I'll find something else to do this summer!
Having said all that, if Lisa was in formal evening attire I might stick a tie in my pocket just in case! :-)0 -
I went straight from work in a dress, but didn't even get to take my coat off, others were in jeans. The interviewers are dressed very casually.
And from entering to leaving was no more than 20 mins. They tell you which team you are being allocated to, give you a booklet which explains what they're looking for, you can look at this for a few minutes before they call you for an ID check and photo. Then you just wait for the next available interviewer0 -
Just back from my "Selection Event".
We must have arrived at a really busy time because we were there for an hour and a quarter.
Otherwise it was as described by lisa.
They are well oversubscribed for Volunteers though. Quite excited about the whole thing!
I even got a badge!0 -
Hi
I was one of the Selection Event Volunteers (SEVs) for the WPFG. Basically the people that ask the questions of those who want to volunteer for the games themselves.
Can I assure anyone who has to go this week for their interview for a volunteer, you have absolutely NOTHING to worry about.
It is totally informal, you don't have to dress up for it, it lasts approx. 20-25mins at the most, the questions aren't difficult and if you get 'stuck' on one of them, there are pointers to help you and you can always go back to it and the end of the interview. There is no right or wrong answer and the questions are definitely NOT difficult. The questions are based on examples in relation to skills and qualities that everyone has.
I can only speak for those that I interviewed over the 3 days that I was there for and nobody had to wait any longer than approx. 10mins to be taken for interviewed and were out the door within about 30mins - all pain free!!
Hopefully this will put anyone mind at ease you is attending for interview.
Hope you are all successful in becoming a Volunteer!0 -
Friend went tonight. In and out in 40 minutes. She'd been matched to a certain role already based on her application form so she was asked about how she would fit that role and what experience she had. She went in jeans and a shirt, wasn't under or over dressed. All very informal as others have said. She's bouncing off the walls now though, and absolutely desperate to get involved with this. Fingers crossed for her, everyone else who wants to do it - and me, who's up tomorrow!0

Slight thread drift here, so apologies, but on the theme of the WPFG13, Bangor Union Masonic Lodge 746 are hosting an extraordinary summer Games meeting on Wed 7th August in the Marine Court Hotel, Bangor.
It is expected that several hundred Brethren will be in attendance at this once in a lifetime occasion.
If you are a Mason, and are involved in the games in any way, or know of Masons coming to compete or officiate in the games, and would like to know more about this unique meeting, please contact the Lodge Secretary by email on 746secretary@gmail.com for full details.0
