I have just found out my place of work will be closing on 12th may, not a suprise as ive known about it possibly happening for some time.
My question is this, im on oml at the moment, waiting for baby to arrive !!, i know i will be offered another job at a store in the area, but full time as I am a manager, my problems are as follows:-
1. I cant work ft due to child care
2. getting to other store for me would mean two buses or buying a car
3. redundancy would be the better option for me
I do intend to work pt after my mat leave, but even if my store wasent closing I would have requested to drop down to a supervisor or similar in order to work part-time. Ive looked at gov sites etc, but not clear on situation, any advice

As an employee on maternity leave, you get first preference for other vacancies (over the other people being made redundant).
If you want them to find you a manager vacancy part time at another store, explain during the consultation process that that is what you are looking for. They have to try and help you find a 'suitable' vacancy and, if there are any of these vacancies going, it will be very hard for them not to offer it to you.
If you would prefer to take redundancy, major on the travel problems that you would experience at another store, whilst also explaining your request to be part time. Chances are they won't try and force you to take the other role (its difficult for them to anyway if it means changes to travel, etc that you aren't happy about) and they'll give you redundancy.
Bit OT, but have you thought about being a manager part time? I don't see why you should have to take a demotion just to go part time?0 -

The employer would have to make the case for not allowing part-time working as a manager. But in the end it's going to be their decision, I suppose.
If supervisors can be part-time, why can't managers?0 -
My point exactly. To me, a store manager role seems like exactly the sort of job which is a perfect candidate for a job share...0
