in Cutting tax
Hi Everyone,
I am caring for people in there own homes so travel home to home. My employer doesn't pay anything for my petrol/travel cost since 1st Aug 2012. So I am attempting to fill out a P97 form to claim this back. Have I filled it out correctly please.
business mileage = 2275
2275x 045p =£1023.75
so I ask for £1023.75 allowance relief ???
I have read on a few post on here something about only claiming 20% but it doesn't say anything like this on the form i wondered if anyone with experience could advice me please.

It is like an extra tax allowance so per your figures you could get an extra £1023 income this tax year before starting to pay tax, potentially saving you a fraction over £200.
This assumes you have paid this much tax between 6/4/12 and 5/4/13.
What is your cumulative pay and tax from your latest payslip and what week or month does the payslip relate to?0 -
:think:so you don't actually get your travel money back you just get more tax allowance before paying tax for the next tax year I've totally got the wrong idea about this.I thought i just claimed my petrol back each tax year. (I'm sure this is what my employer led me to believe):(0

will look at wage slip in morning.0

morning,
i've looked at wage slip (January ) which is for work up to 30/12/12.
total pay = £4,880.97 taxable pay = same
tax paid = none
n.i = £15.540 -
Sadly, if you're not paying any tax then there's no claim to make.Signature removed for peace of mind0

If the £4880 is your only taxable income this (tax) year then making a claim would be pointless as you have not paid any tax.
Might be better trying to persuade your employer to pay some mileage in the first place!0 -
Yes thank you . Makes sense I don't know why I thought I could.
The employer use to pay travel for each call then in Aug just stopped and every employee receive a letter saying as from 1st Aug (which were 3 days before ) the company will no longer be paying any travel and we would have to claim from tax office..................when I think of how much £'s i've put in each week in petrol shocking really:(
I got a new job last week and I'm pleased to say my new employer pays me a little mileage cost .0
