Not allowed to leave the building on a break?

  • At the moment over 8 hours. I'm a supervisor but it was temporary so I revert back to my original role which I then do 4 hours a day. I know if it's more then 6 hours you get a 30 minutes break. So it's only a 15 :)

If it's over 6 hours, you get a 20 minute break; not 30 minutes. It's not divisible so if you work 4 hours you are not entitled to any break.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Must be only my company which gives 30 minutes for over 6 hours then ;)
I try to help as much as I can. But I'm also honest and speak my mind.

Smoke free since Jan 2014 :D If you want any advice on quitting please send me a PM. :)
  • I'll give my companys policy for breaks

Less than 4 hours - nothing

    4 hours - 5 hours 59 minutes -15 minutes

    6 hours - 7 hours 44 minutes - 30 minutes

    7 hours 45 minutes upwards - 1 hour and 2x 15 minutes (or 1 x 30 minutes)

    seems fair.

We give 30 minutes to all staff over 6 hours, and nothing to those who work less (although the smokers seem to have 20 x 5 minute breaks a day..............)

Your company policy is your company policy. We can only advise on the legal minimum.

And no need to wink - lots of people get 30 minutes after 6 hours, indeed much more than the legal minimum. You weren't asking about that though - were you?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

All company policies differ, the day nifty at my place get 20 mins in the morning, an hour dinner and another 20 mins in afternoon. 8-5 so only the diner unpaid.

    We get.

    under 4 hours - nothing

    4-6 hours- 2 x 15 minutes

    over 6 hours - 1 x 30 minute dinner and 2 x 15 minutes

There is another for working over 9 hours I think, but I don't work over 7.5 hours so it doesn't affect me.
[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

  • My manager used to say that we weren't allowed to leave the building during "paid time" because the company could be held liable if you had an accident. No idea how true it is ??
