Barclays online banking blocked!

Ok, so after opening a new account with Barclays before going BR and being told that they wouldn't take online banking off us after the BR, we have today been blocked from it! Spoken to the guy that told us they wouldn't block it and all he said is sorry, it can't be used until you are discharged!! That really helps, NOT!
What happens to my direct debits? Will they still be set up? I managed to get a new DD set up with gas/elec supplier but only on the understanding that we pay by DD or they will have to fit a pre payment meter.
Don't know what to do now. We can't check if money has gone in or if DD have gone out, unless we take a trip to the nearest cash point or bank which is a 10 minute drive. And my car will be going to the OR soon as it looks like it is a fixed loan agreement not HP, so the OR will take it and sell it.
Does anyone know if she will give me anything from the sale to buy another one? She did say that it was ok to get another car.
Car is only worth £4000 and amount owed is £12,000! On that basis i don't think she will give me any to buy another one

Your DD's should still be set up, the online stuff is suspended on BR, IMHO cannot see why!, but you should be able to use the telephone banking, if you do not have a telephone banking password they will take you through an advanced security to check your DD's etc, if they try to get a bit obstructive ask to speak to a supervisor and tear them a new one.every time I manage to get one more breath into this body, I will sing a song of thanks to you my brothers, my sisters, my friends, may your sleep be peaceful, and angels sing sweetly in your ears.0

Your bank account can be operated as normal..but without het internet access, etc.
Re the car?
If the OR has told you a car would be exempted as an asset, and they take your existing one for the BR, they can give you back up to £1000 for you to buy another car.No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Thank you both for your replies. They have stopped us using both online and telephone banking! (Very annoying, can't see what harm it does to be able to check your account online)
Re car, Yes she said there was no problem with getting another car when mine goes, but we originally thought it was a Hp agreement, sound like it's better for me if it definately is a fixed loan agreement! Just hope she does let us have some money from the sale.0 -
Hi, I had the same situation with my car, a fixed sum loan and a car valued £4500. The loan was in my name but being paid for by my son, it was his car. The Or asked if my son could pay a fixed sum to keep the car, there was a dicussion about how much he had already paid and how much was left to pay, which was £6000 approx. He first said he would accept £3700, but in the end my son paid just short of £3000. So if possible could someone help you out to do the same, but if OR gives you a price he will accept in payment for the car dont just accept it bargain with him, its worth a try. Good luck

If you do a search re Barclays, you will see that this happens more often than not, although the occasional lucky peep will slip through the net, I didn`t and did not have access to online banking whilst still BR.:pB&SC No. 298

Hi, can I ask if these were cash card accounts (most basic) where you lost on line access? I was made BR on 1 Feb and still have access to mine at mo..
thanks0 -

Yes, mine was the basic cashcard account, hopefully you may be one of the lucky ones and slip through the net, however as you were only made BR a few days ago it is still possible you will lose your access. Please keep us updated with regards to whether you keep it or not.:pB&SC No. 298

Will keep checking daily and will let you know, I know that OR wrote to my bank on Monday so maybe I will lose access
It seems really silly to me.. I use it to keep on track of where I am with things etc.. will be such a pain without it as bank isn't easiest place to get to.
Keep you posted0 -
Yes mine is the basic account. Went BR on 25th Jan and online banking etc blocked on 6th Feb!0
