Male employee.
Is there any statutory entitlement to sick leave for this? Or can he be expected to book annual leave time?
I think it's annual leave but a friend has someone in his company who wants to get sick leave to accompany his wife to clinics.

I'm almost certain you are right.
Generally there is no right to sick leave for medical appointments, except possibly as a reasonable adjustment for a disability. I'm not aware of any additional rights for this purpose.PLEASE NOTE:

There is no statutory right to leave for something that is known about in advance for a dependent other than a child. Evidently fertility treatment is not an emergency appointment. Parental leave is slightly different but evidently not applicable for a partner (or at least hopefully not)0
