Invite timings - help needed

Options
Hi all, Just finishing up our invitations and after much deliberation we've decided on posting out them roughly 6 months ahead of wedding (my entire side of guest list will have to travel cross country and stay overnight and the wedding is on a Friday) with an RSVP date of 2 months before.

I know this isn't the usual guidelines but can anybody see any obvious problems with this?

Thanks
xk

  • We are getting married in July and once the invites arrive in a couple of weeks we will post them. We have stated an RSVP of 2months prior the wedding for the day guests, and a month before for evening. We are hoping we will be able to 'bump up' evening guests if some of the day guests can't come.

A lot of OH's friends and family will be travelling a long way, and have mostly already booked their hotels, but our wedding is on a Saturday. With yours being on a Friday, people may need to book time off work, so I think the amount of time you are giving is fine.

  • we have just done our day invites and will do our evening invites this weekend. Our wedding isnt until september but we want them sorted this month. Its likely all our guest are coming to the wedding as its very small so we saw no problem in sending them early as everyone knows the date anyway. I think it is up to the couple.

We will be sending ours out 5 months in advance, also a friday wedding and people need to book time off/hotels etc.
  • We will be sending ours day invitations out 15 weeks before with an RSVP 9 weeks before and 1 week to chase people if we have too.

The evening invitations will go out 11 weeks before with a 5 weeks RSVP then a 1 week to chase if needs be.

Getting married in May. Sent save the dates for the day guests back in august so everyone would know the date well in advance as it's a bank holiday and didn't want people to book holidays or days out for that weekend and they could book travel/hotel to wedding in good time to get the best deals. Sent all our invites at the beginning of the year. Rsvps need to be back end of this month. Still waiting on at least 20 (not including evenings) We have to let the venue know final figures by end of March at the latest.

Sounds fine! I am getting married in April and, like you, have many guests who will need to travel. We sent Save The Dates in about May, and then sent invitations in November, requesting RSVP by January (which didn't happen, but at least it gave us plenty of time to chase people!)

Evening invitations are going out in the next few weeks, so about 6 weeks before the wedding.

I'm getting married this June, and as we have a few people who needed to book rooms we let those know who were invited a few weeks back.

We aren't doing invitations and it's only a small(ish) wedding so those that are coming we speak to all the time and so they know they are invited.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

Thanks for all your replies ladies :) Seems like there's no hard and fast rules - I just had a wobble and thought I'd check I wasn't being daft! We did send Save The Dates out last year not long after we were engaged so people hopefully have booked time off work already but you never know ;)
