PSNI Officers take jobs as clowns!

Do you still need big feet to get a job as a clown?0

they dont start on £25,000, to my knowledge (i stand corrected if wrong) they start on £19,000 to £21,000 BEFORE tax so really are doing a serious job for cr*p money especially in this godforsaken place. Also (again cos of this useless country) they get posted to areas miles away from their homes to "protect" their personal security (as if) and so have serious costs involved in getting to and from work, maybe having to rent out a place plus pay their own mortgage back home etc etc. The same can be said for the new NIPS custody officers who get an amazing £18,000 a year (WOW!) BEFORE tax so really they are coming home with just over £14,000 a year before they then pay out their costs involved. (My OH is one of the so-called "lucky" ones who got one of these posts so I know what I am talking about). He took it out of desperation for an income yet we are still struggling to make ends meet. Yes there is plenty of overtime in the PSNI at the moment with the "fleg" cr*p going on but who really wants to stand every night and get abused, cos i know I wouldnt do it? Also the NIPS jobs are a joke, the folk in there are on pathetic pay whilst their colleagues who were taken on years ago are on twice their pay, !!!!!! the ones who are retiring at the minute are getting bigger pensions than the likes of what my OH has to work for in a year. The difference with the PSNI and NIPS etc nowadays is that years ago the money was decent and the cost of living cheaper, now we are desperate for work we will take anything and put up with working with the dregs of society for a pittance of a wage and be expected to be grateful we are working!!! Lets not forget that many folk in the PSNI and NIPS nowadays have come from all walks of life and professions because they NEED the money. So I am in no way surprised at all that they need a second job. Its either that or bankruptcy for a lot of them. I think it is a disgrace that there are people who CHOOSE to stay at home on benefits (not the genuine cases) and get everything for free whilst the other poor sods who have debt and responsibilities have to go down the road of working in the PSNI or NIPS. Rant over lol!0

I know of university lecturers with doctorates who have worked in filling stations. That won't hit the headlines but, to my mind, it is much worse that someone with 8+ years university education is forced into this than a police officer who would not routinely have anywhere near that level of education.
That is just the way the world works... too many people make too much money for doing nothing so there are going to be those who deserve much more than they actually get.Always overestimating...0 -

How about quit the winging - try running your own business with a taxman, vat man, rates man, doe planning man, hmrc man, etc etc collecting the tax that pay for all the useless publicly employed staff on 20k a year jkust for showing up then you'll have an idea how hard life really is. If your husband doesn't like the money he should quit -how in god's name anyone can begrudge that level of earnings is beyond me. Lecturers in poland earn half what he earns for being 10x more educated....0 -
highrisklowreturn, yet another example of someone who knows nothing about the person that they say is "winging". If you knew anything about me from reading my previous posts on MSE you would know that my OH was exactly the same as you in self-employment until the recession messed that up for him. Believe me he would gladly go back to the "taxman, vat man, rates man" etc etc rather than "showing up" for what basically amounts to less than £1200 a month, a measly £45 more in a week than Tesco or ASDA I believe. Take it from me he would prefer the wrath of the taxman more than where he is working now. No doubt £1200 is a fine wage if you are single and living with mum and dad but not for a family man with thousands of pounds worth of debt carried over from the economic downturn so as for "you'll have an idea how hard life really is"........don't even go there with me. You obviously know nothing of me nor my life nor I would imagine even care. And as for the lecturers who are "10x more educated" - you have no idea what qualifications "publicly employed staff" have so that is a very sweeping statement to make. The point of the original post was that PSNI have to take on a second job in order to bump their income. The point of my post was not to whinge (although admittedly I had a rant) but to give an opinion from someone who has an OH in one of those organisations and to highlight that yes there is a need for second jobs for many of those people. So don't tell me to quit the "winging" (although my obviously lower educated OH has just pointed out that you have spelled that incorrectly - I think you will find it is w-h-i-n-g-e-i-n-g) but sure what would he know, eh?0
