I hope that somebody can give some real advice, My mother-in-law has found out today that her partner is in debt for the tune of 40K. A few years ago when he came into money he bought the house and gave it to the Mother-in-law, the deeds are in her name. Anyway he has come home today from Citizens advice and told her that they have told him she either sells the house, so that she can buy another one. Or they will take the house of her.
To be honest I can't see this, because I know my sister recently went bankcrupt and her partner had only got bought their house within the last 18 months, but they haven't had to sell it.
Anybody know?

Doesn't sound right to me? I'm sure that someone who knows will be along soon, but she needs to make sure that she finds out evrything in her own right, not second hand, IMHO.0

Erm how can I put this? Is you MIL partner a bit of a chancer? Ie he would say this to get his hands back on the money? Because I would be very surprised if the CAB would say she had to sell HER property to finance HIS debt.
Without more information I don't know what to suggest. If he went bankrupt on his own with no assets I think would be it. Crucially BECAUSE they are NOT married.
Tell her not to panic and get them to phone CCCS or Payplan for a second opinion
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

To be honest it sounds like that to me too. She has said that she won't give him any money. But she has arrange for a valuation to be done tomorrow and is currently sorting through everything so that she can sell it on her things on ebay. I don't really want to get involved, only to find out that I am wrong and cause a whole load of trouble.0
