Fed Express charges

I hope this is the correct place.
I recently sent a camera to America for repair under warranty.
The camera was bought in the UK from a physical shop (so definately a UK purchase).
I recieved the camera back a few weeks ago - delivered by FedEx, a week or so later I recieved a invoice from FedEx for about £16.00 (I know its not that much, but with my postage costs its alot!)
Roughly it was £5 VAT and £10 Advancement Fee.
I emailed FedEx to enquire what these charges are for, I recieved an automated response email, which stated they aim to resolve a query in 10 days. More than 10 days past, so I replied to that to chase. Another email from Fedex asking me to state my query (which I'd already done). I've had no response to this.
I suspect they're charging me VAT for 'import'? but If I've read the HMRC site correctly, I shouldn't have to pay VAT on a warranty repaired device?
Not impressed with FedEx's customer service.
I'm worried now as the invoice is over two weeks old - as been waiting for the info from them.
Can anyone advise please? thanks
