Sounds like it's worth going for. I don't know what your field is, but even in these difficult times, it can be hard to find good people. If you were making 50% of your staff redundant, would it be the best 50%?! No. So if you are the best candidate, they may be quite willing to take you on, especially if they are a big company.

If nothing else, it's good practice for the next time, and they may well contact you in the future if something else comes up.
  • I wanted to say, thank you for the reassurance they wouldn't reject me straight away... infact it was quite the opposite! I was formally offered the job on Wednesday and I will start in around 8wks.

I've read and re-read their maternity policy, plugged it into our budget calculator and short term we are about the same financially but long term it's a great move. The new HR team were happy to plan my first few months to accomodate a year off and were actually more than happy for me!

I'm still in dreamland that I've been offered the role and they're so understanding... I'm waiting for something to pop my bubble.

(I think it's worked out like this because my field is difficult to get into and to get good solid experience in).
