Mortgage application while overseas

Hi,

My husband is coming to the end of a two year project in the Middle East and we're returning to the UK in early March. We need to buy a second home near his head office where he'll be working from and although we have HSBC over here. they can't process a mortgage application for the UK.

We want a mortgage of £100K for a £150K house and have the other £50K waiting in our bank account. We're good customers for HSBC and they have no problem with the mortgage, they just can't do it until we're both in the country. We have seen a super house over the road from where we used to live, we know the house, know the neighbours, just can't buy it for another 6 weeks.

Is there any way we can make a mortgage application now, ready for it to be in place when we're back in the UK? Can anyone help us please?

Many thanks
Daisy

As your bank HSBC have said, you'll have to at least be back resident here (another lender may also want 6 mths re-patriated status and credit history for you both before they will consider any app).

    Hope this helps

  • Thanks for your reply.

We are Premier customers (both here and in the UK) and this is through the Premier service. We just wondered if this was going to be the reply, as the Holly has suggested. The only point in our favour is that my husband has remained paid by our UK company and not from overseas.

Ho hum. Must wait is all.

    Thanks anyway

  • We will be literally buying our house via email back in the UK - we are a forces family overseas, not sure if that is classed as different? We are using the services of a broker, maybe that would work for you?

Yes thats correct, HM forces are treated differently in respect of overseas and ex pat regs.

    Hope this helps
