Any mortgage broker or independent financial adviser can do this for you, have a look on the insurance forum there are articles and posts on ASU all the time

Why not try direct sellers like Tesco,Direct Line and Sainsburys. To be happy you need to make someone happy.0

yes you can go direct and look for this kind of insurance yourself. Do you know what you are looking for as mortgage protection covers a little more than ASU that you have mentioned.
There is life cover, critical illness cover, income protection and redundancy cover which are normally the 4 areas you would look to cover.
You can make this cost a lot more cost effective by tailoring it to your personal circumstances. There are other things that you need to bear in mind with regards to the premiums you pay - do you want guaranteed or reviewable.
Going direct will often save you a little money but by making the incorrect choices and not structuring correctly or going to an insurer whose claims history is dire - it could be false economy.
If you feel confident in what you need and how to set it up then brilliant but when I find that people are looking just at price and not whether or not it actually works for them - this is where its not worth having becuase it was never gone to cover you in the first place properly.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. possibly because Tesco & Sainsburys do not offer these contracts, and Direct Line are 25% more expensive than comparable companies?
If you are concerned you should seriously consider a "proper" income protection plan.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.This signature is here as I follow MSE's Mortgage Adviser code of conduct. There was a thread the other day in the insurance section where the person had bought the wrong type of income protection policy and its now costing them far more than it would have done had they taken out the right one. They werent aware that there were differences between them.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

Try this comparison site it also allows you to put in your requirements and choices ,and that is what you would do if you used a broker.http://www.moneysupermarket.com/ASU/MortgageProtectCover.aspTo be happy you need to make someone happy.0

Why is it so different from buying for example car insurance, just as important, because then third parties could be involved. The majority use search engines as recommended by Martin.Précis information linked research and your requirements are vital, quoting an example of one individual is fine and relevant ,but it does not and should not prevent other missing out the middle man, because one person failed to understand. There was a thread the other day in the insurance section where the person had bought the wrong type of income protection policy and its now costing them far more than it would have done had they taken out the right one. I make an analogy ,travel agents there will always be a requirement because some still need their hand held .
The original poster needs options ,I do not know which category he/she fits into ,give him/her the facts and let them shop around and compare.
Homer-j gave the middle road, that is fine, another choice and so it should be.To be happy you need to make someone happy.0 -

Its different to car insurance in that the car insurance generally has 3 levels of cover. The rest of the addons are features which are not the end of the world if you dont have.
With ASU/income protection, there is no standard. Different companies have different exclusions and different ways on how they treat different illness' and disability. Plus when it comes to income protection, that can straddle both investment class authorisation and protection class. Most of these websites only hold protection class so wont show investment class versions. The quote portal coverage for PHI is also very weak. PHI being underwritten requires more work and it isnt a very profitable product. Plus there are loads of differences there between the plans. So, the websites tend to leave that off their quote portals.quoting an example of one individual is fine and relevant ,but it does not and should not prevent other missing out the middle man, because one person failed to understand.
It isnt just one individual. It is an area of concern in the industry at the moment that too many people think that an ASU is an income protection policy when what they really need is a PHI. It's only when they come to claim that they find out there is a difference.I make an analogy ,travel agents there will always be a requirement because some still need their hand held .

Yes but people buying a holiday to spain know they are going to end up in Spain. Do you go ASU, general insurance version of income protection, Protection class PHI or investment class PHI? budget, standard or comprehensive (noting that the budget options do not market themselves as budget versions but appear in the same pricing charts as the comprehensive)? Disability definitions different?
If the original poster needs options, then there are about 30 providers/plans that dont appear on your list from moneysupermarket that I would class as much better than those on there.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I'm not allowed to make a recommendation, and wouldn't be able to do so anyway without assessing the client's needs.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.This signature is here as I follow MSE's Mortgage Adviser code of conduct.
