My partner and I are now bankrupt!
We thought we would get there early, however they still didn't see us until exactly 1.30pm so there wasn't really any point.
We had a very nice lady go through the forms with us. There was another lady there as well, just sitting in as she was being trained. They helped us fill out the affadaivt which we had to swear was correct on the bible etc. It took about 45 minutes to go through all the forms. Then we waited for our files to be put together.
About a quarter of an hour later, we went upstairs to find a judge. They were very busy, but fitted us in between appointments. We both went in together, and the judge checked with us that it was okay to go through them both together. He then checked that we had legal advice and we knew what we were doing. Checked how much we were going bankrupt for, signed it all of and said all the official jargon, stamped the forms and smiled when he said "hopefully now you can get your finances sorted out". I think he meant it in a nice way.
Then we went outside for some fresh air (which my other half decided to pollute with a cigarette), and got a hot drink from the canteen whilst we waited for everything to be typed up.
The two ladies came back in, explained the forms, and got the Official Receiver on the phone. He said that he will go through the forms when he receives them, and then send us a letter detailing whether or not we will have an interview on the phone, or will need to go in. Apparently we will be seen together if we do have to go in.
I feel so relieved. Just got to get through dealing with the OR now.

Hurrah!
The OR will just do their job ... they only want to identify anything of value that they could take and sell, to go towards paying your debts. They don't take anything you really need and don't take anything you need to earn a living. Try not to worry and don't get too attached to any of your possessions - at least, not if they are of any value.
Nearly over ... am very pleased for you.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
I'm glad you have got today over with you are obviously feeling a lot more sorted now. I am sure I speak for a lot of users when I say I wish you well and I hope that you can put it behind you and make a fresh start:)0

Thanks for your congratulations. It sounds so bizarre to be celebrating going bankrupt!
Had a call from the OR today, and both myself and my partner are going in next Wednesday. He seemed like a very nice man, and asked me about out banking arrangements. I told him we had opened a Nationwide Flex Account before going bankrupt and that our bills come out and my partners wages go into it. He said that in that case he will just inform them that we have gone bankrupt, but not ask them to freeze the account.
Not such good news on the housing front. I have posted a thread about it here:

I returned the medical form on Saturday in special delivery, so it should get there tomorrow. I've also emailed them, and contacted Shelter. I'm going to phone the Homlessness Prevention Officer when I get the guts together (more difficult then it sounds - I want to be in the right place emotionally so I don't get really angry, but at the same time I don't burst into tears!).
At the moment we keep thinking that surely the council will have to help us. We will have been in the borough 6 months, we will be homeless and with my mental illness we have to be considered priority surely. Especially with how bad I've got in the last couple of weeks with stress.
*Sigh* I just don't know anymore. Anyway, one step at a time. This week phone the council, and an appointment with my doctor. Next week appointment with the OR.0
