Just out in interest, why would you consider consuming highly processed protein powder but not coffee, cream, coconut oil or eggs. Coffee I can just about get, I regularly address my caffeine addiction LOL though I mainly drink tea. But good quality eggs are a very cheap, efficient source of protein and cream from pastured cows is highly nutritious as well, a good source of vitamins, lecithin etc. Coconut oil contains lauric acid and it's now being associated with improvements in alzheimers, autism etc.Eat food. I have a little spirulina in smoothies as my diet is pretty low in protein. As much as I loved coffee, I gave it up about 5 years ago as it irritated my intestines and added to general dryness of my skin. Not a lover of dairy and gave up eggs about 16 years ago when I always vomitted after eating "gamobolled eggs" as my son refered to them. In days of yore I used to use coconut oil as a hair wrap and foot softener, recently discovered the delights of cooking with it. I love coconut water however and am more likely to consume that.Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task

I am low carbing long term and have no problem eating out.
I even ate at a seaside fish n chip shop, and they didn't bat an eyelid when I asked for salad instead of chips.
Also, in Asda's cafe I asked for salad instead of chips and they went into the supermarket part and got me a bag of salad, cherry tomatoes, cucumber and a whole small pot of coleslaw. FAR better than a bunch of stodgy chips!
Friday and Saturday this week I shall be eating in an Indian restaurant. I can have any "dry" dish such as shaslik, chicken tikka, tandoori chicken, with salad and lemon juice and a pot of raita to dip my chicken tikka in.
So, NO PROBS eating out on low carb.0 -

Oats are a starch, so is rice, tortilla wraps, sweet potato. 40g of jumbo oats with water is around 23g of carbs.

I lost 2.5 stones eating low(ish) carb and stalled when an international move threw my eating habits totally out of whack. The biggest difference I found in how I felt and looked was cutting out gluten. Even when still eating some rice/sweet potatoes/other starchy foods, not having gluten kept me feeling and looking much better than my old gluten heavy ways.
I need to sort my food out again now, as I could do with losing a bit more.0 -
good morning I am new to posting although I have been reading the comments on this site for many years.I have never dieted before but as I am now 47
my weight has piled on.I have put on a stone and have decided to start on a low carb diet. I have seen the support you give each other and this has encouraged me to give it a go. This will be my 1st day, I have been exercising on a rowing machine for 15 minutes for the last 4 days hoping this will kickstart my mind set. I work night shifts so my breakfast would be your teatime etc lol. Thank you for listening,wish me luck!!:j 0 -
I cannot recommend low carb enough. That plus the gym has meant I have lost 2 and a half stone for my wedding (since Jan) and I feel healthier than ever. I only eat raspberries and feel so much better without all the sugar sweeter fruits give me. I'm currently having about 1500 calories a day. 100g protein, 100g fat and 50g carbs.
I lost 7 stone a few years ago doing approx 2000 calories and 20g carbs on Atkins (stayed in induction for ages) before regaining it by being an idiot and going back to old ways.
I find it a lot nicer on 50g and will often save all carbs for main meal and come home to something in slow cooker (chicken, peas, carrots in gravy or similar). Some days can have a couple of slices of Burgen soya and linseed bread instead or even a bar of Bourneville (26.5g carbs) although I prefer to 'spend' carbs on veg and sometimes a little fruit.0 -

I am doing a low carb, low fat, high protein plan, basically 3 meals and 3 snacks a day with protein included in all, I get my carbs from non starchy veg. My husband and I started on 6 Jan, I've lost almost 2 stone (while continuing to go to the gym 5 times a week) and he's lost almost 4 (doing no exercise).
Its not always easy but it is do-able once you get over the initial couple of weeks. I have had a couple of meals where I have ate carbs and this has not had a huge impact, certainly not a couple of weeks. Just cutting the starchy carbs will make a big difference.
I also second the protein shake as a quick and easy breakfast. I also drink at least 1.5 litres of water on top of normal tea, coffee etc.

Hi all, I have used Dr Clarkes low carb diet in the past and it really works, better than Atkins, I think, in that you can eat salad and lots of veg. The key is not to eat anything processed, just good fresh food and limit carbs to 40g a day, but they must be wholemeal. As for fruit, in the first stage you are allowed just 1 orange a day (not juice!) I never had a problem eating out, I replaced my lunchtime sandwich with a plastic box of tomatoes and cold chicken or salad with tuna etc... it just needs a bit of advance planning but you soon get used to it. Steak and salad or fish and salad is fairly easy to get in restaurants. I don't really 'diet' anymore but stick to the low carb as I find I don't like that 'stuffed' feeling anymore! Wheat is the worst thing and I still rarely eat bread.
With Dr Clarkes, once you have lost the weight you want to lose, you gradually re-introduce carbs, but as he says if you start to put weight on again, you know what to do!0
