A friend sent me this: https://www.landis.org.uk/soilscapes/
It allows you to enter your postcode to find out your soil type. Fascinating I thought.

I am supposed to have slightly acid loamy soil, and mine is slightly acidic, but more clay than loam, with large flints, and below 30cm it is sandy clay. It is correct for a friend 4 miles away who has shallow alkaline soil on chalk.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

It doesn't work on my iPad...I get a blank blue page.0

Frustrating to use, but it eventually produced the result I was expecting, so accurate for me.
I think if you zoom too far, the result is a blank screen. Recommend postcode method.0 -
Doesn't work on my iPad either, probably a Flash issue
would have been really useful.

I appear to be on the border of acid clay and some unidentifiable shade of brown which doesn't quite match anything in the key.
I tested my soil when I moved in, and it's actually a very alkaline heavy clay.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

Tbh......Not sure it beats having a look. And doing a couple of soil tests. I haven't done soil tests, I just note what seems happy here so far, but this year I think I will get round to testing.0
