Get onto the festivals and events circuit - you'll always be out and about, no two days will ever be the same...
  • I used to work in Town Planning Enforcement, as well as the office-based work this also involved site work.

However, I did have both experience and qualifications appropriate to the job, although one of the Enforcement Officers had come from a Benefit Fraud background. This coupled with councils getting rid of staff, I don't know how easy it would be to get a job such as this.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Thanks for that! Thats something I'd love to do, but more in the animal field

Animal Health Officers work in Trading Standards and they check on welfare conditions of animals on farms/small holdings and check that correct records are kept for movement of livestock/medicines etc (to ensure traceability and safety in the food chain). Sadly, like so many things, this area of work has been suffering from huge cutbacks so jobs are few and far between (and this will probably continue until the next big disease outbreak when the government wake up and realise that there is a very good reason why these people exist!)
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

I'm exactly the same OP. I've had a few office based jobs and I hated them, I felt trapped and I don't really like just sitting at a desk staring at a computer all day and then there's the office politics and gossip.
My current job which I've been in for the last 2.5 years is a driving job. I get my route then I'm gone, my own boss. It's nice to be out and about, esp when I'm in the Cotswolds or similar.
I know I'll never be able to do a job where I'm in an office all day, I could probably do a job where I'm there half of the time. I love the outdoors too much to stay inside.
  • You want boring? I work from home; and have done for almost 2 years now

If i'm lucky, i get to visit a client/office once a fortnight.. but I can easily go a month without needing to leave the house (for work).

Sometimes I go a little insane...

I'm a support worker and most of my job is getting people out and about. Whether its to appointments, seeing family, visits out, banking - you name it we do it. Its pretty rewarding and the wages are gradually increasing in the industry as theres a lack of people who want the job for one reason or another. I enjoy it though, and have had many jobs before and its definately one of the better I have done
