Why can some quiches be cooked from frozen and the one I want to eat now says Defrost thoroughly in fridge for 10 hours?

ie will I die if I eat it?

Maybe the cook from frozen is already cooked?

that would make sense but don't think so in this case because it says defrost before cooking

Maybe cos it's raw it needs to be defrosted first.

Maybe it's something to do with the thickness of the quiche in question - think I'd MUCH rather defrost them before cooking anyway.

Perhaps it's just me :(, but there's something about quiche mixture (eggs/milk/cheese) that I'd feel more comfortable about being cooked from a non-frozen consistency to make sure that they're thoroughly cooked and set.
  • Hi,

stick it in microwave on defrost, minute at a time, then cook on high, just make sure it's warm throughout.

'ie will I die if I eat it?', wouldn't think so.

It must be cooked already because a raw quiche is liquid in the middle.
Most things can be cooked from frozen. It will be fine on a medium heat. :)

    Frozen quiches are already cooked.

Probably the reason they say to defrost first is that if it was in the oven for a long time, the pastry would burn before the middle was cooked.

I would cook it but probably microwave it.

I thought frozen ones were always cooked too until i left a couple to defrost sideways! :rotfl:

I think they tell you to defrost things just in case someone eats it undercooked and is poisoned, rather than a practical difficulty.
