Hi Martin
Sorry to hear that your RSI is playing up. Have you heard of Access to Work??
It's a government scheme that pays for special equipment such as voice activated systems or even a support worker to help do tasks that you cannot do because of a disability or health problem. The Access to Work scheme pays 100% of the costs if you are self employed and 80% if you are employed (your employer is expected to pay the other 20%.)
If you live and/or work in the south east you can apply by phoning the Access to Work team on 01273 364750
Hope this helps.

I don't know a lot about voice recognition systems such as ViaVoice or NaturallySpeaking but I imagine they would come into their own better on longer documents, rather than short pieces such as forum entries.0

anything would help me at the moment

I have recently had an Op (ASD) on my shoulder to 'ease' my RSI. Hasn't helped (yet) am in more pain now than I was before - but have started using my left hand for my mouse, to give the right one a break, and it has helped.Only 5% of those who can give blood, actually do!

Swapped over last Thursday after my Physio suggested I did. I've been using my right hand for the past 15 years at work, and as 95% of my day is spent continually clicking at work, I thought I'd try it. Felt really awkward to begin with, but soon got used to it, and am sleeping much better at night as a result.
I had no idea my shoulder problem was agrrivated by RSI, just assumed RSI was isolated to the wrist area. The constant clicking of the mouse, had caused my shoulder ligaments to become pinched and damaged. I also had calcified tendons, so I had the ligaments and calcium deposits removed and the bone shaved to create more room for the muscles to stretch.
You'll be surprised how quickly you adapt to using the left - I have. Just tried using the right (as daughter had swapped mouse over this morning) and the pinching started straight away.Only 5% of those who can give blood, actually do!

I had been having trouble with my shoulder for about a year. Intially diagnosed as a strain ( moving furniture) then frozen shoulder. I got some benefit from some chiropractic treatment, and she diagnosed RSI and wrote to my boss about it wth advice about mouse and seating.
The real help was a few sessions with a teacher of the Alexander technique, who really helped me with my posture and movements. I have now become very movement aware and can catch myself going back to poor habits. I would almost describe it as miraculous- but not cheap bit I feel that it was a worthwhile investment.
I bought Dragon naturally Speaking as well for use at home - intended mainly for my son who has dyslexia- , and it does help if I use it for long documents.
I think the biggest problem is the number of people who were never taught to type properly but spend hours on the PC daily.0 -
Whoops wrong heading - listening to too many reports on MRSA and MSSA on the radio this morning. Should have been RSI sorry0
