Manager's Special at Next!?!

Options
Went into a Next store today to buy a jacket for my grandson, costing £26.

As I approached the pay area an assistant asked if I wanted £10 discount off my purchase.

She said if I don't buy the jacket instore, but order it online instead, I'd get it for £16 rather than £26. I could get it delivered free to the store and then collect it there.

She gave me a coupon and I went home and placed the order.

It did make me wonder though. With all the High Street store closures recently, it seems madness to actively persuade a paying customer to leave the store without making a purchase and buy online at a substantial discount instead!

Or maybe I'm missing something...!

Did you already have a Next credit account, or did you open one using a code on the voucher she gave you?

I spent best part of the afternoon with a salesman in Car Phone Warehouse as he showed me lots of mobile phones and benefits - after few hours I picked out the one I wanted - asked him if I can return it if I dont get along with it - Nope" was his reply - once bought its none refundable - so I told him I would order it over the internet (still from CPW) - he asked me why (which i cant understand) - I said to get 'distance selling regulations' so I CAN return it within a week if I find I dont like it

Surely a company the size of Car Phone warehouse should be aware of this and that their own high street stores are losing ££££'s to their own website

Simple answer (as many companys have discovered) is to offer the same return policy in-store as they do online

Must be Rocket Science maybe :rotfl:

    ...!

and dont forget the extra benefit of DSR regulations because you have bought it online
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?

That's because whilst a lot of high street names are struggling, it's the click and collect ones that are doing well! They are coping with the consumer habit of wanting to compare online then pick up when and where they choose.

Except (unless your talking about an unsubsidised sim free handset) DSR wouldn't apply with your mobile phone purchase. As once you turn on the phone and connect to the network the SERVICE (excluded from DSR) would have started.

Didn't have one. Normally I never shop there. I only went in this time because this particular jacket was suggested to me by my daughter for the baby.

So if you now have one she probably got commission on getting you to open it.

Added to that, you would have spent £26 in the store and may not go back for another 6 months, the hope is that now you have a Next account you will spend far more money than you would have otherwise and pay interest on the items you don't pay for in full, in the long run it's worth the £10 to drag you into their credit account.

They're always touting for Directory customers at the front of the store, I avoid them like the plague.

It's very difficult (I've found) to shop at Next online and not open a credit account, unless you know what you're looking for. By practically making you open a Next account, they are almost guaranteeing more sales/profit from you!

£26 for a jacket for a baby? Bloody hell, I wish I could afford to spend that on my own clothes let alone children's clothes. :D

The OP will also now receive a shiny Directory which will cost them £3.75 each time it's delivered.
