Looking for new glasses frame suitable for very high prescription.

Does anyone have any advice on suitable glasses frames for very high short sight prescription? When I say high, I mean -15 and above.

I usually get plastic frames with wide arms, however getting a bit bored with that type now & need some advice on which other styles I could look at.

  • only the smaller the better and oval if you can, bit pointless though as you will need to buy in an opticians and they will be able to help you get the right frame,

it doesnt have to be plastic but bear in mind you will see more of the lens edge and will pick that up in your vision till you can adapt and obviously they will appear thicker to people looking at you

Many sites will let you upload a photo and use it to virtually try on glasses to see the type of style you like. It'll give you a head start when you're on the high street.
  • Asda opticians, they dont charge extra for thinner lenses so you could save a fortune.

The OP is looking for style tips, not money saving - although I will bear that in mind when I am next in the market for a new pair!

OP, I can only echo what other people have suggested - plastic will be lighter, and something with thick arms to hide the width. You say you already have these and are bored with them, but I think they are the best for your prescription unless you want the bottle tops to look obvious. Perhaps go for a different colour?

I don't know how old you are or if you are male or female but I have noticed that larger glasses are making a comeback with younger people - the hipster look! What about these from Timberland?

Definitely smaller as that will make the lens thinner as you won't get as much of the thick outer part of the lenses. Avoid rimless as they are hopeless for thick lenses.

Opticians are trained to help you choose glasses that suit your face shape, so that would be be first port of call x
  • I got the pair I have now from Asda. However, there was a bit of a nightmare with the actual lenses. The company they were using just couldn't deal with my prescription & I ended up having to send them back twice as I wasn't happy with them. So, before looking at frames in Asda, I'll have to double check that the company they are currently using can handle my prescription & do a good job.

I get my contact lenses from Asda too & the optician is always thorough. I do mainly wear contact lenses, but been advised to start wearing my glasses more often.

Online Asda have a vintage range which looks interesting, will have to check whether they have them in store aswell.

Looks like Specsavers have a nice range of designer frames. Never been there before so not sure whether they will be ok or not.

Thanks for all the advice & I do reckon the smaller frame the better, I just fancy a change from the type I'm wearing now.
