Am I likely to get car finance/loan?

Sorry to hear about losing your job. I'm sure you can still locum at a pretty nice rate though. The reason I am maybe seeming a little reckless to others, is that, push come to shove, there is always that option to locum isnt there?
I mean my friend last year (only 25) took a year out after F2 to locum on A&E and was earning £50 an hour, he totalled over £100k in one year, albeit before tax.
Also to the other poster - it sounds like your friends are following the long route to consultancy. I'm intending to follow the GP route, which is 5 years flat from medschool (there's talk of adding an extra year, not sure if it will actually be implemented).
My 20k estimate actually included the insurance cost which I thought would run into the several thousands. Actually turns out to be no more than 500, maybe because I'm 30 now. So maybe I'll just try for 12-15k, taking that and the advice from posters into consideration.
Going off topic here but I've worked in the pharmaceutical industry for the last 13 years, most of that in clincial research. There's always a need for experienced medics in this field if you get fed up spending all your days around sick people
The pharma industry is obviously fairly turbulent, but with the ever growing demand for more clinical trials for a new drug to be approved there are plenty of jobs out there (most of them come with company cars).

I have come to the conclusion that this forum is usually the blind leading the blind...
:rotfl:
God forbid that someone actually makes a decision that is right for them...
I look forward to reading your "sound" financial advice to the OP0 -

If you won't be doing huge miles, get a Merc CL or something; about £5k for a decent, 10yr old one, add on a cheap private plate and noone would notice the difference. I took one home last week, to have my neighbour ask how much it's worth. When confronted with the same question, she came back with 'about £30k?'
This only works if you're a low mileage driver, as they cost a fortune to put fuel in
As stated, be aware that medicine is not a job for life at the moment, so its more and more important to only take what you can afford.
