Old debt from Germany

Hi - just wondered if anyone had advice regarding an old debt I had in Germany 12 years ago.
I did move back to UK 12 years ago with a bank debt from CitiBank in Germany - they had (have) all my contact details and once I had a job I started paying them back. However I was made redundant and contacted them - they asked me to send them minimum payment but with IBAN paypents etc it was proving too expensive - I contacted them to ask if they would (could) arrange a better payment method and never heard from them again for around 3 years - they now have started sending regular (once a month) letters with vast increases of interest.(now the full debt is 13,000 Euros?)
Do I setup further comms or as its 12 year old debt - what else do I need to do?
Your advice as always greatfully appreciated
Thanks

In Germany, the statutory limitation for debts (without a court judgement) is three full calendar years. So, for any debts (or any payment) from 2009, counting begins on January 1st 2010 and the debt can no longer be enforced after January 1st 2013. You might just sit those three years out (if you haven't already).
If there is a 'title' (a court judgement) in place, the time limit is 30 years.0 -

Thanks for your swift reply
So to confirm - there is no court judgement - and the loan was taken out in 1999 - I paid some towards it - but there was a gap of 3-4 years before they started to harras me again for payments - am I right in assuming that the 3 years have now come and gone?
