Popperwell, I wonder if you have seen Shirley Goode's blog, called the goode life (as far as I remember)? I know you sometimes like setting yourself challenges and she does this too from time to time. Here is the link to her blog. If you read back a bit she has loads of good recipes and tips and all thrifty.

Will see what reduced lamb i have in the freezer and i expect i have some beans somewhere hmm which store cupboard to hunt in.
Thanks all...
Yes, I am getting more adventurous in the kitchen again and even try to jazz up even simple meals...
Will take a look at the blog...I used to put up and odd recipe on my own which I have not done in ages...
I suspect if we eat smaller portions/adapt we can get it down so it is nearer the budget we have set ourselves...
Today has been a mixture of ready meals and bits and pieces because I was out...but I used items I had in my store or were reduced but did have some chips from the chip shop as a treat.

I'm afraid even Nigel Slater has surprised me with this month's Sainsbury's magazine. His name is on the front cover advertising an article with supposedly frugal meals inside the magazine, but whilst some of them are reasonable, some are ridiculous!
I'd have liked to have seen that but there isn't a Sainsbury's close to here...I'll see if it's online..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I found the mag on line but what is allowed for free is limited but there are some nice recipes I hope I can try...
For those of you who like to bake bread but want some fun I posted this link elsewhere on MSE...

And if you like Brussel Sprouts here are some ideas how to use them rather than the usual way most of us probably do...

Lamb, rosemary and cannellini beans with buttered cabbage
This one is £5 for a family and really lovely.
Spiced spring onion fishcakes with lemon yoghurt
This one is a £10 "supper dish" for 6 people.
Pork/Beef casserole with mushrooms
You don't need to buy the paper
it is all online!
Lovely, I'm also liking this

As I am off potatos, rice, pasta, noodles & cous cous & bread. So the swede topping is right up my street.
How great does this look!

My DH loves swede on top of his cottage pie, always has. I don't eat pork because I am allergic to it.
It works with lamb mince as well.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
