Steam mop that works - affordable too

I read up a lot on steam mops before I bought one. A lot of people complained of wet floors so I was wary too of what I was in for.

As with any form of mopping, which means using water on the floor, the steam mop will leave some water on the floor. However, it shouldn't drench it. The amount of water left on the floor will depend on the amount of steam generated as well as the cloth sleeve being absorbent enough to absorb most of the water.

At the end of my search I bought a reasonably priced one at £34-99 from BM Stores:

I am very pleased with this product for the following reasons:

  • I didn't spend a fortune on it.
  • It comes with 5 absorbent sleeves which are adjustable and machine washable.
  • It leaves the floor slighty wet which dries off quickly.
  • It cleans the floor well lifting dirt effectively.
  • The tank is large enough to clean my entire ground floor and carpet on my stairs (I have a detached 4 bed house).
  • It cleans my oak floors and kitchen tiles with ease.
  • It has a button to control the steam (on and off).
  • The flex is long enough to reach 3 rooms in one cleaning session.
  • There are hooks to wind the flex round once finished.
  • The triangular mop head swivels freely so cleaning corners is a breeze.
  • It also lightly cleans and freshens carpets.
  • It worked wonders on my vinyl - looks new again.
  • It's silent enough to use on Sunday morning when everyone is still in bed.
  • It heats up within seconds but cool to the touch.
  • It stands up without toppling over.
  • It's lightweight and very manoeuvrable.
  • It reaches in tight corners.
Extra tip:
I have come up with a tip which I think some people might like - for use on carpets, use the scented ironing water (distilled water) you get in supermarkets. This will leave a lovely fresh smell on your carpets.
I shall try to use this on the carpet in my car too.

Beware:
I used the steam mop on a chipped area of the laminate flooring in the landing upstairs and the flooring looked a tad "swollen" so I wouldn't recommend on unsealed laminate flooring.

Conclusion:
  • I highly recommend a steam mop.
  • I wish I had bought one years ago.
  • No need to spend lots on one.
  • It's pet friendly and chemical free cleaning.
