I want an expandable mp3 player

hi all
I've been searching for a mp3 player and first was looking for a hdd player but am now thinking of getting a flash player with expandable memory on either sd/mmc or xd cards.
Just a few questions tho -
1) If I use a sd/mmc or xd card will this take all types of formats of music for example not only Mp3 but also WAV, AAC, MP4?
2) Is it better to get a large 512mb player instead of an expandable one?
I've seen an expandable one online at micro direct that takes xd cards and as my digi camera also takes xd cards thought this might be a wise move, also cos xd cards are pretty cheap at the moment
