Post discharge Effect on partners credit rating

Hi
My partner completed an IVA in September 2011 and is in the process of rebuilding his credit. It's has been made much easier for him as somehow his new bank kept open his credit card and allowed him to use it - it's been squeaky clean. Hs debts were amassed during his marriage to his ex wife.
I am soon to be discharged after my years bankruptcy.
We would like to have a joint account once I resume my career (I used my years bankruptcy to take a years sabbatical and complete and msc as it kept my earnings below an iPa level and therefore wasn't as expensive as doing it when I would be keeping my full salary) - as we share finances now and don't want the he pays she pays and be transferring money about.
I know my br will have an impact on his rating but given he's had an IVA in the past would it be as bad as for someone who had a squeaky clean record.
Ideally we'd like to be able to get a mortgage in the future however realistically we know if its within six years well have to get it in his name only. Once I'm working again, we'll be saving like mad for the deposit.
