Have you a source for that? I've never heard this before. My OH retired at the end of last year on Special Class status (nurse) and I'm pretty certain her pension is based on actual time served.

It's the very last item at the bottom of the first page. Basically if your OH meets the special class or MHO conditions and has over 20 years service and was in the scheme before 06/03/1995 she/he should qualify for the same benefits.

Actually I'm now editing this to say that having done some research it appears that it's only those nurses in the special classes who have mental health officer status who qualify for the doubling up after 20 years. If your OH was a general nurse then this would not apply even if she was in the special classes. I'm lucky enough to be in psychiatry which is why I qualify. Sorry for any confusion.
