One colleague has been getting it at about 8.10am and leaving at about 4.50pm. I have been getting in at 8am, taking 30 mins lunch and finishing at 5.30pm and have accumulated enough time for a day off this week, and almost enough for another day off in the next couple of weeks. Another colleague really struggles to get up in the mornings, so they usually do 9.30 starts and finish later than the rest.

You are working over 6hours a day so there is one thing that appears wrong here: You are taking 30 minutes lunch and the others aren't? If so then they should be. Anyone who works over 6hrs in a row should be taking at minimum a 20 minute break.

    it's optional.

We have flexi time where you can either bank the hours to take them as TOIL or take them as paid overtime at the end of the month.

Our normal working hours are 8am - 4.30pm, and even though we are all on flexi, most people still end up coming in at 8am and leaving at 4.30pm (old habits die hard I guess). It's very handy though if you have things that you want to do outside those hours. We are allowed to build up a pot of 16 hours for TOIL (no limit for overtime), and I think we are allowed to owe a maximum of 8 hours.

The policy is that you still have to ask your manager if you leave early or come in late, I suppose just as a courtesy so they know what to expect. But as I said earlier most people clock at the standard times.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I think I am the only one who is only taking 30 mins for lunch. The others take the full hour, unless they have appointments that they need to bank time for.

I worked somewhere which had flexitime, core hours, and stated that people could take a max day (or was it half a day?) of accrued leave each month. I remember I really enjoyed the flexibility to leave early sometimes and avoid the traffic, over and above my occasional extra day off :)
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

Ah. :) Apologies. Rereading it that does make sense that way.

I love flexi, have worked it for years and can't now imagine having a job with a fixed start time. We can work any time between 7am and 7pm, with at least 30 minutes for lunch. There are no core hours - as long as you have no more than two days worth of credit, or one and a half day's debit at the end of the month (based on a 37 hour week), you can pretty much work whatever hours you like. It's brilliant.

Never had the option to work flexi time in any of the jobs I have had. My last place were 100% against it. You could not even leave early for an appointment or anything.

I work flexi time and always have.

Our busines hours are 9-5 but you can do flexi from 7am - 7pm. You must take 30 min lunch break after 6 hours. You can leave at any time really as long as manager allows, but generally you should do 6 hours any less needs approval.

I have 2 kids (1 is a baby) and I go in at 7.10 (ish) and work until 3pm (must do 7.24 a day) it works out great for me, as it only takes 30 mins to get home and im home just 20 mins later than eldest daughter who's a school.

Its hideous getting up at the back of 6, but I am kept going knowing I can leave at 3pm. And it means I have a few hours in evening before kids bed time.

Cons are that its too easy to sleep in, and you have to be disciplined to go in early (its easy to sleep in when you know you dont NEED to be in until 10)

Basically if you take flexi leave or dont work your flexi hours you end up on standard hours or worse to work it back up. I've been there with the whole 7am - 7pm on the last week of flexi & it is not nice..not worth it.
