Yes it is a gifted deposit.

It wasn't 5 days ago!! Nor was your income secure.

Thanks Scuff! Don't get me wrong- I would definitely have to pay him back the deposit, and I also said I'd pay him the income he'd get if he kept it in the bond (£80 a month) but to get my own place would be brillo.

So that would be £80 to him a month for lending me the deposit, and then saving over the next 10 years or so to pay £30k back to him, but while interest rates are so low and house prices are low I think I'm going to try and get on the ladder asap. Dad seems keen too which is nice. Usually he thinks about something for so long until the opprotunity has passed by!

Just working out what all the outgoings a month would be now and it's do-able on my wage. Only snag is it's not regular and I'm scared haha. My friend has been talking about us getting a place together for a while so I know she would take the 2nd bedroom and that would be an extra help to the bills.

Arranging viewings and going to nip to the bank next week to see what they say re mortgage :) (bet they tell me to !!!!!! off haha!) x

I'm definitely thinking about this too much.
    A VERY different story.

    A VERY different story.

My income is never secure, however I do have a full history since I have been in my job. I'm not sure anyone can class their income as 100% secure anymore!

And as for the deposit, it's not something that has been discussed and the payment back to my dad was my suggestion and not his. It's certainly ot something he would make me put in writing and show to the bank as an outgoing!

And yes, you absolutely can point out that this is all very recent- but I don't understand what your point is?
I've been looking into things for a while and now I have somewhat of an opportunity to get some cogs moving.

You can actually be self employed in my profession- but the point you can class yourself as self employed depends on your job title.

The HMRC may take a different view. Working for one employer is increasingly difficult to justify as self employed. .

Ha my story is exactly as I have said. I've been employed by various companies through the past few years. I recently paid off a loan and have a CC outstanding. Last week I was asked if I would like to use some money for a house deposit, and yes I would! I got the ball rolling to check about mortgages and in the meantime have been talking to dad about if and how to pay it back. We have talked about the £80 a month because that's what he get's from it being in a bond. The rest I do not yet know and haven't been asked.

When the advisor asked if it was gifted he asked if it was from someone else or my own savings. So it was gifted, he didn't ask me if it was free or anything like that, so apologies if I misunderstood what gifted meant. It is not money I have saved.

    I'm not a lier, I'm just after people's view!

You misunderstand me. I don't work for one employer constantly! Me and my colleagues (ones that are one step up and are self employed) work for different employers for a certain amount of time and move on. But according to HMRC people with my job title can't be self employed, people with the job title one step up can be. That is just how it is.

Gifted means you don't have to pay it back.

If I wanted to say then I would have saved myself a whole load of typing time! I have put a fair bit of info on the forums so would prefer not to put something else unless it would help.

I wouldn't have asked if I didn't think it would help.
