Free Ubuntu Linux Cd

If you're a linux fan, you can order a free CD from Ubuntu web site. Dell has decided to start shipping desktops with this OS so watch out for it.

PS: Please only order if you know what you are looking for :)

    Cool, spread the word :)

Incidentally, you can also download the most up to date disk-image for free from their website and numerous mirrors.

I've been using Ubuntu for about 6 months now, once you get the hang of it you won't even consider going back to windows (only reason I occasionally boot into windows is for some of my games won't run under linux), but for everything else, Ubuntu is the way forward, the software is more efficient and best of all, its all FREE!!!

Worth noting that when you order disc's from shipit they quote around 4-6 weeks for delivery. Saying that mine arrived in about 2 weeks :).

Ubuntu is a superb OS, not as resource heavy as MS and to my mind
a whole lot prettier, although none of your windows software will run on Linux but that doesn't matter because there are alternatives for Linux which are as good if not better than windows software.

And like the above poster said, it's all FREE :)

if you REALLY must use a certain windows application that you can't live without, you still don't have to boot into windows, there are several pieces of FREE software that will allow you to run windows software and games from within linux.

Wine - https://www.winehq.com (you can just install this from the package manager within ubuntu, simple as putting a tick in a box and clicking apply) This allows ubuntu/linux to run windows applications in its native environment (in a nutshell), on their website there is a list of apps/games which are tested and given ratings (gold/silver etc..) on their reliability.

also, VMware, also available in the package manager, this actually creates a virtual machine which you can install any operating system you like on and run it in a window (or full screen) on your desktop, but it acts independantly so you can do what you like to it and it won't affect the rest of your computer..
