Unenforcable Credit Card

I signed an arrangement with a debt management company called Grassroots 12 months ago as they found a credit card that i had with an outstanding balance of 7700 to be unenforceable.
The representitive that came to my home to arrange this with me told me and explained clearly that the fee to them would be 30% of the outstanding balance of the credit card for sorting this out. This fee included a one off charge to the solicitors of 975. I signed the paper work and started to pay a set monthly payment.
Since, the company Grassroots have sent me an invoice showing that i still owe a substantial amount of money.
They are saying that the fee was 30% PLUS 975 solicitors fee. Not just 30% including the solicitors fee.
I checked the paperwork, it is very misleading but does say 975 PLUS 30%.
I have contacted the rep that came to my home and she said she is sure it should have been 30% all in. She said she has contacted Grassroots on my behalf to tell them that she was sure it was 30% all in as she sorted this out before it all changed and they have said sorry there is nothing that they can do.

I have tried to contact Grassroots by phone but can never get through. I have emailled them directly expressing my concern about the misleading information that their employee has given me and requested a copy of their complaints procedures, i have had no reponse.
I feel that at a very low and vunerable time of my life i have been talked into and arrangement and given incorrect information regarding charges and i really dont know what to do about it.
I dont mind paying the 30% of the outstanding balance fee that was agreed with the representative but no more.
I appreciate that i have signed the paperwork too ..
Is there anything i can do about this ?

Thank you

30% for their fees??? If the debt really was unenforceable, you could have just had a solicitor do it for you, you don't need a debt management company. Its like these PPI companies who want 20% when you can do it for free.

Take your paperwork to a solicitor and see what can be done. This will cost £££.

You'll probably still owe the original debt as well. Have you checked your credit report?

    Are you even for real?
  • Thanks i will do!!
I know its ridiculous.. its amazing how you can be talked into things when your so desperate!!

If the debt was unenforceable, you could have just not paid it... For free.

I have debts which are unenforceable and unsecured, but if I don't pay them, they report that non-payment to credit reference agencies and I wouldn't be able to borrow even my bus fare home for 6 years after that point.
  • I defaulted on the actual account 3 years ago but i suppose Grassroots would give me another black mark for another 6 years.

Tell them your debt to them is unenforceable. See how they like that.

Or pay them using your credit card and then get them to declare that debt unenforceable too.

    I doubt.

I doubt you have a credit agreement with them and that they report to credit reference agencies anyway.

And I doubt they would take you to court to (attempt to) get a CCJ against you.

Yes I agree its good to not pay them, you have done well
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
