Experian/Credit Expert Cancellation

I know trouble cancelling this service is nothing new. However I've been speaking to a few people who have received emails recently about their account.
It turns out they asked to cancel it and presumed everything to be ok, only to receive an email 18 months later, from experian, saying that they had misplaced their email and offering a full refund.
I find it hard to believe these are isolated cases, and if a company can misplace two emails then I have to ask...how many more have they misplaced, and how many would they have not admitted to?
