  • When did Valentine's Day become like this? Didn't it used to be for people who AREN'T together? A kind of courting thing?

My Hubby is getting a Man Flu Survivor Mug - believe me I've earnt the right to insult him after the week I've had with a man dying on the sofa next to me! .....and a pair of thermal hot socks.

(as one of my colleagues said, maybe the hot socks will lead to hot s*x - who knows !?!)

I'm getting a little plant for my garden & a card. For just a £ or two, nothing more - it's the love behind it that counts.

You are so right! Was always meant to be about courting someone to be your valentine - not someone who already is!
  • Gift cards, gift cards, gift cards!
My partner and I have birthdays two weeks either side of V day, so we set a £30 budget, and generally buy each other a gift card to that value. He has a really particular taste in clothes, so I got him a card for a local shopping centre, and he loved it!

Or does your fella have a really specific hobby that could be covered with a gift card?
Local guitar shop/ fishing and tackle shop/ AMAZON voucher/WHSmiths/Garden Centre.

Also I've gotten into the habit of buying him a pair of Valentines themed socks every year. :S

We also generally MAKE each other the cards, the more tortured and inventive, the better. Once I took a bunch of free magazines from tesco's, ASDA etc and cut out any words that looked vaguely suggestive.

Or one time before that, I figured out ways to write what I wanted to say with pictures. Then simply google image searched the pictures, printed them out, and arranged them.
    Like:
Dear (picture of a deer) Joe (picture of a Hoe, then typed "- H + J"
Happy (Picture of Mr. Happy from Mr. Men!) etc etc etc...

It keeps the comercial holiday light hearted, which suits us I guess.

  • I don't want a Valentines gift. Valentine's day is such a cheesy commercial day that I don't believe it should be supported.

I'd be happy with a meal at home.

As for flowers..no. No bloke I know wants flowers. We were talking about v-day at work and nobody (men and women) is going out on Valentine's day. Everyone is going out tonight or on the weekend when you don't get ripped off.
  • Steak medium rare. Fellatio. I'll say what most are thinking.
    I have a cunning plan!
Proud to be dealing with my debts.

  • Well said ;)
