Hi. Windows 8/Vista. HP Pavilion a6421.uk desktop.
When I use IE to seach for something, I get the message below,, yet when I click on any of my list of 'favourites' list, no problem connecting. I have to search using Mozilla Firefox - no problem with that. Why is this/how to correct ? Thanks

Under Internet Options>General.Search>Settinggs, various search engines are listed as follows
AOL Not available Not available
AVG Secure Enabled Not available
Bing Default Disabled Disabled
Google Enabled Not available

Internet Options>Programs>Default Web Browser.
"IE is not currently the default web browser"
do I click to change this ?, ie to make IE the default browser0 -
changed the default browser (under IO>Programs) to IE - no difference - now cant change it back
changed the default browser (IO>General>Search>Settings) to Google - no difference0 -
Sorry. I don't mean to appear rude. But you can't tell the difference between Windows 8 and Windows Vista?
Windows 8 (released back end of last year)
Windows Vista (released in 2006)
Anyway, this is what you are looking for:0 -
ah sorry - found it
IO>Advanced>Reset
but, when I click reset message comes up "before you can reset IE settings you must close all other windows and programs"
Obviously if I do that, I have no IO box open to click on the reset button.
Sorry if I am being dim here !0 -
right - sorry again.
Now, the rest button works....but it will reset all of the following - DO I want to do all those as well...or am I opening a can of worms
Disable toolbars
Default Web browser - that all I want to change
Privacy
Security
Advanced Options
Tabbed browsing settings
Pop ups0 -
Yes, we can configure the rest back with relative ease
And it means, all other programs other than IE. Once done, you need to then close IE and repopen0 -
seems to have worked (it also upgraded me to Windows 9 (or was it IE 9 - it flashed too quickly). I can now search on IE - many thanks.
Dont know what else it may have changed though ...
Again thanks for your patience0
