Hi all,
I'm looking for a company/someone who can engrave glass or sandblast it..? I'd like a candle holder engraving with a pitcure of my friends son, he passed away recently.
I've searched online and can't find anyone, thought l'd ask here.
I thought it might be nice for her to burn a candle in, what do you think?
TIA x

When in doubt I turn to Etsy.
There are a few shops like this one on there doing laser engraving and they do custom designs too, I've found Etsy sellers to always be really accomodating to all requests.
And I think it's a very nice idea.Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Being the nosy sort I came to see where my shop had been mentioned. There have been a few views coming from this forum. Thank you Birdie85 for linking, but I must make a minor correction. I don't do laser engraving. That is done by programing a picture into a computer and a machine cuts the glass. I hand engrave, i.e cut the picture into the glass one line at a time myself.
So if looking for laser engraving , I would not be the place to go.
So what's the difference?
Laser engraving is like hitting print and the paper shoots out, versus having your portrait painted. So in that frame of reference I am a painter not a printer.
:P
You are right about etsy being the place to go for custom orders. Always remember if you don't see what you want in any particular shop , most of the sellers are willang and able to make what you need to your specification. Just send them a message !
Much love,

Eeps I was looking at a few shops and got confused as to who did the laser and who did the hand engraving.
Either way, the results are lovely.Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
It's quite alright! I appreciate the recomendation either way.
A lot of people don't even realize that engraving on glass is possible , much less the different types of engraving available. Any time someone share the possibility of engraving it is another oppertunity for engravers like me to be able to share what we love to do. Most people just see glass, where I see a blank canvas waiting to be filled.
It is quite possibile to do portraits with hand engraving, but they have a different look than those that are machine engraved, just like a painting versus a printed photo. I have some of my portrait work on my facebook. A quick search for the glass goddess will take you to me. There is a newborn portrait right in the center of my cover photo if anyone wants a quick look. I would link it but as a newbie, I don't have the ability.
Again thank you for the link , and I am sure every one of the etsy shop owners would thank you for sending people to discover the wonder of shopping handmade.

Your idea is a wonderful one. I get alot of local request for portraits in memory of loved ones. Your friend is lucky to have someone so considerate in her life.0 -
Thanks Joanna, I understand the difference you're talking about, l had been more inclined with the laser option as doing it by hand like yourself is riskier because not everybody is such a good portrait artist however, l do like your pieces!
This is the baby portrait, which if I'm honest l don't so much like because its very detailed...

However the one on this page is STUNNING and much more lifelike IMO

I'm assuming you could do the effect on the second one from a photograph?
I may be in touch next week Joanna thank you.... X

@ sassyblue ,
Yes I do that effect quite often. That is a pic of me , LOL. I would be glad to assist you if that is what you decide. No matter where you go, be sure to be descriptive about your wants when having a custom piece done. Make sure your artist understands the mood of the piece, the style to be done in and what the important details are. Be sure to dicuss price points , as well of the cost of shipping(which are going up again) .
Warm wishes,
Joanna0
