Cashing in Endowment - but can't find other named person?

I have a 20 year old endowment I would like to cash in. It was taken out in my early 20's and has an old girlfriend named on it even though she has never paid a penny and the payments have always been DD from my account. The endowment is with Scottish Widows. They previously asked me to get her signature but I have no way of locating her and have had no contact for over 15 years. Is there a best way to proceed with this please?

I saw this yesterday, but have nothing to offer. You have to find the other policyholder. I know of no other alternative.

TBH at the time you split, an equity of redemption should have been carried out to remove her ownership of the policy, similar to a transfer of equity for a property/mortgage.

Chances are, wen you do find her, she'll screw you for a percentage of the value. You'll then need legal advice, if you can't agree.

Hi, I had a similar situation with my ex husband who could not be traced. Finally we had to go through the courts, for the judge to sign the removal of his name and interest on his behalf. We had to show we had tried allsorts to track him down, including taking out adverts in the press! Luckily I had been recommended a brilliant solicitor (after dealing with many that weren't) and she got it all sorted.

Lateral thinking needed if you dont know any of her relatives. For example you obviously know her name but do you know her date of birth or even her birthday with approx year? If so get yourself to the National Records Office and search for her birth certificate. This will list her parents names and addresses at the time - you can work from there forwards.

I was struggling to find a relative that went to Oz in the 1950s - spent ages searching on the internet. Then employed a specialist investigator who tracked the guy down in 2 days (had moved sopmewhere else)
