Hi everybody!
I'm a newbie to the thrifty lifestyle and I'm hooked! I'm having a lot of trouble persuading my DH to follow but he is appreciating the extra money it's giving us! We started as we have a huge amount of debt to clear and its giving us an extra 200 at least per month!
These are the things I have done so far:
Switched to shopping at lidl and Iceland.
Cook in bulk and everything from scratch
Plan my menus
Make sandwiches for DH to take to work
Started growing my own (so far only herbs but plan to grow more this year)
Make a lot of my own presents for people
Buy in sales for presents for dd etc
Make my own bread
Bake cakes and biscuits for snacks rather than buy them!
Use money off coupons wherever possible
Walk more and use the car less
I'm considering investing in a chicken coop and having our own chickens as we can easily eat a dozen eggs in a couple of days here as DDs fave food is scrambled eggs and we bake a lot as well. My brother used to make his own wine and has offered me all his stuff so might make my own wine...although not so sure since I've been medically banned from booze for a few months! This would make fab presents!
Any other useful advice? Ideally would like to save another £50 a month if we can!

Welcome to OS maisie!
You are certainly on the right track - well done!0 -
Hi there newbie
Looks like you are making a great start to your moneysaving.
I go to car boot sales occasionally and always pick up a bargain. Brand new packaged unopened gifts to give as pressies.
I do car boots as well to get rid of 'stuff' I don't need anymore. Recently I took some of my 'old' clothes/boots/shoes that are in good condition to a nearly new shop. I managed to get £103
It is just about thinking in a totally money saving way. There is a lot of help on here, shopping challenge etc. to assist you.
Good Luck :money:0 -
Hello there and welcom.
I can see a big hole in one on your list.
Get your OH to make his own sandwiches, you are going to be very busy doing all the other things.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

You could start buying the 15-30p bubble bath and using that as hand wash.
Also you could buy a bottle of kitchen cleaner and put it into your own spray bottles, an inch of the cleaner, an inch of bleach and fill up with water.Ebay 13........1583.46/2000.00 Amazon sales 54/50 Etsy sales 63/50

hello maisie, welcome
We used to make a lot of wine & it's amazing what you can make it from, look out for sugar on offer, in readiness, if you decide to give it a go. Plus, you may be off the meds & able to drink some by the time it's matured
And, if you're going to grow salads, do them in stages rather than sow all the seeds in one go0
