I had a 80 o/d
I moved accounts and forgot about it, they added charges until they issued a default of £380!!
I complained several times and they wouldnt budge,
I offered to pay the £80 but wouldnt pay the charges.
Last week i emailed steven hester, and had a reply from one of their exec complaints team,
They advised they would reduce the default to £80 and if i sent them a cheque for the £80 they would report it as satisfied,
finally :) one less black mark!!

    Well done.....but the default is still there, so very damaging for your credit worthiness.
  • I wouldn't call it a win, you still have a default for 6 years.

  • Email Mr Hester again and complain about the default. Don't give up now just because the unfair and disproportionate £300 fees were scrapped!

    You know, i was considering that.
    But what do others think?
    Surely it was my fault that the default was there? Would they remove it if i protested a bit more?

    Why would they remove it.....consider yourself lucky that you got some of the charges back....

    I don't think you should be protesting, as you clearly did default on your agreement with the bank. There would be no harm in contacting the office of Mr Hester and appealing to their good nature, whilst explaining and apologising for your poor memory and honest mistakes on your part. The worst that can happen is you get a reply saying "No".

    I don't think you should be protesting, as you clearly did default on your agreement with the bank. There would be no harm in contacting the office of Mr Hester and appealing to their good nature, whilst explaining and apologising for your poor memory and honest mistakes on your part. The worst that can happen is you get a reply saying "No".

    They are two completely different issues.

    I would send the cheque as per your agreement direct to the applicable recovery dept with whom you have negotiated.

    Then, after you have received written confirmation that the account has been satisfied/settled and advising that CRAs have been notified accordingly, send a carefully phrased letter to the office of Mr Hester. You would basically be requesting to executives of the financial group for the default to be removed as an act of goodwill.
